Faculty Position Announcement

Associate Professor of Urban and Public Affairs and Director, Kentucky State Data Center

 

The Department of Urban and Public Affairs (UPA) at the University of Louisville invites applications for a tenured appointment as Associate Professor of Urban and Public Affairs and Director of the Kentucky State Data Center.  The position is a 12-month appointment and is expected to begin July 2010.  Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field and relevant experience.

The Director of the Kentucky State Data Center is the state’s official liaison to the U.S. Census Bureau.  The Director also oversees UPA’s participation in the Federal-State Cooperative Program for Population Estimates.  Key responsibilities of the Director’s position include:

- Leading demographic research efforts in the Center, including demographic analysis, estimates, and forecasts.

- Implementing the Center’s responsibilities with respect to dissemination of demographic data and population forecasting.

- Collaborating closely with state and local governments, non-profit and other organizations, and the U.S. Census Bureau, and facilitating and collaborating in demographic research across the university.

- Expanding external funding for demographic research.

- Supervising research staff.

The appointee’s primary teaching duties will be in support of UPA’s Ph.D. program in Urban and Public Affairs, as well as the Master of Urban Planning and Master of Public Administration programs.  The appointee will have a 1-1 teaching load.

Minimum qualifications for the position include:

- Ph.D. in demography, sociology, geography, economics, city and regional planning, urban affairs, or a related field.

- At least five years of experience in applied demographic research in a collaborative academic setting.

- A successful record of grant and contract funding.

- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

- A record of academic, peer-reviewed publications that would justify a tenured appointment at the Associate Professor level.

- Aptitude for working collaboratively with state and local governments, non-profit and other organizations, the U.S. Census Bureau, and faculty, staff, and students across the university.
