Research and Teaching

My primary areas of research are housing, community development, urban policy in radical cities (Amsterdam/Havana), green / sustianable urbanism, advanced research methods / statistics, and experiential learning in graduate education. I enjoy working with motivated/ creative graduate students who love to publish cutting edge research. My forhtcoming book, "Invisible City: Housing, Poverty and New Urbanism" contains contributions from five graduate students from our program and I have co-authored two other books with graduate students: Promise and Betrayal: Universities and the Battle for Sustainable Urban Neighborhoods and Community Versus Comodity: Tenants and the American City. I am also using photography as a research tool in most of my books and my various websites. My future plans are to to edit a book called: " Ideal City: Amsterdam Policy and Planning" and journal articles on "Socialist City: Havana Policy and Planning", "New Directions in Older Inner City Community Development", improving upon my sociological theory of inter-city rent differentials, and green transporation policy for cities.
